The Greenville County Commission for Technical Education (Area Commission) is an administrative agency of Greenville County established by the South Carolina General Assembly. The Area Commission is responsible for the development and operation of Greenville Technical College in accordance with the standards set forth by the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education.
The Area Commission consists of seven members appointed by the legislative delegation to serve three-year terms and three ex officio members. The responsibilities of the Area Commission include appointing a president of the college, representing the college before the County Council and state agencies, establishing programs of instruction within the college, and applying the standards of the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education to all operations of the college.

Calder D. Ehrmann spent 30 years with Michelin North America, where he held a wide variety of positions and launched the company’s corporate diversity function. A Senior Associate in the Richard E. Riley Institute at Furman University, he serves on the Academic Policy & Review Committee and the Personnel & Diversity Committee.

Dr. Phinnize J. Fisher is the superintendent of education for Greenville County Schools. Dr. Fisher serves as an ex-officio member of the Area Commission.

Coleman Shouse is the managing member of Lazarus Shouse Communities, LLC, a homebuilding and land development company. An ex-officio member representing the University Center, he serves as treasurer and is a member of the Executive Committee and the Building and Grounds Committee.
