IT Governance is a structure, a process and most importantly, a partnership between the academic units, the administrative units and the IT professionals. The ultimate goal of IT Governance is to achieve a close alignment of technology with departmental, divisional and institutional goals and objectives. Our IT Governance structure forms the framework for defining how technology policies and resources are established, deployed, managed and enforced.
What does IT Governance have to do with the college imperatives?
The third imperative of the college is to Improve Technology Infrastructure. Outcome 3 includes establishing an IT Governance structure to ensure priorities, funding and projects remain aligned to college initiatives.

What is the structure of the GTC IT Governance?
Our structure consists of an IT Governance Council, four Advisory Committees and tactical teams/ committees. Representatives are selected from the various academic, administrative and IT areas as recommended by supervisors and peers.
What is the responsibility of the IT Governance Council (ITGC)?
The ITGC provides a mechanism for inclusion and participation in setting priorities on technology matters, gathering input, sharing information and building consensus. It will establish a process for overseeing the implementation of strategic and tactical technology plans. The ITGC will help focus IT efforts at GTC on those activities of greatest importance and value to the college.
What are the four Advisory Committees?

Administrative Operations Technology
Student Services Technology,
Web Services.

What is the responsibility of the Advisory Committees?
Academic/Instructional Technology: responsible for seeking new and innovative instructional technologies that support teaching and learning
Administrative Operations Technology: responsible for technology issues related to operational and administrative functions.
Student Services: responsible for analysis of technology needs and issues related to students and associated services.
Web Services: responsible for technology related to web based services.

How will information be communicated about ITG?
The plans include using the portal for a communication process for all stakeholders. Soon details will follow when this is established. In the meantime, questions and information will be communicated to and from the chairs of the advisory committees and the ITGC.
