How are weather closing decisions made?

Decisions are made with deliberation and care. Input is received from Campus Police and Facilities, and after careful review, the college president is ultimately responsible for making the final determination.

How will coursework be affected?

Students who have concerns about the safety of traveling to class should contact their instructors about their individual situations, and, if necessary, make arrangements regarding any missed coursework. If you have concerns about the arrangements your instructor has requested, you may seek resolution from the appropriate department head or dean.

My group is holding an event on a Greenville Technical College campus. How will the weather closing affect us?

If the college is closed or classes are cancelled, then all events and activities are also cancelled. Examples of this include church meetings and community group events.

What schedule will continuing ed classes or activities follow?

Continuing education courses will follow the same schedule as the college. However, there are some training sessions scheduled where a delay or make-up is not feasible. In those cases, all students in those classes will be contacted by continuing ed staff and given instructions.

I am an apprentice, and I am scheduled to work. What should I do?

You are always subject to the policies and procedures at your work site. If you are scheduled to work during inclement weather, follow the company’s inclement weather policy. If you cannot report to work for ANY reason, be certain to communicate with your supervisor beforehand or as soon as is feasible.

I am a co-op student, and I am scheduled to work. What should I do?

What schedule will classes at the University Center follow?

Please check the University Center website at https://greenville.org/ or check local television announcements.

What schedule will the Testing Center follow?

If the college is closed when your test is scheduled in the Testing Center, the Testing Center will also be closed. Testing Center staff will make phone calls to all scheduled students to notify them of closure and make up times.

How does the college’s closure affect Early College classes?

If the Early College class is located at a local high school or career center and Greenville County Schools and the college are closed, the college instructors will develop a plan to cover the missed content.

How does the college’s closure or opening affect Greenville Technical College’s charter high schools?

Students should follow the Charter High School policy. In cases where Charter High School students have college classes and the college is OPEN, students will be expected to meet their college classes even if the Charter High School is closed.

How does the college’s closing for bad weather affect clinicals in the School of Health Sciences?

You should refer to your course syllabus for the clinical program and also check the School of Health Sciences policy statements.

Will the Child Development Center remain open if the college closes?

No. The Child Development Center operates on the same schedule as the college. Please refer to the Child Development Center guidelines for more detail.

I have class that meets from 3 until 6 p.m. If classes are cancelled at 4:30 p.m., is my 3 p.m. class cancelled?

No. All classes in progress will continue until 4:30 p.m. and then will be dismissed.
