Greenville Technical College will receive stimulus funds from the federal government as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to assist students in need during the pandemic. Most students enrolled in credit programs at GTC this semester will receive a disbursement in the next several weeks. You have been identified as a potential recipient. The college is working to obtain and distribute the funds as quickly as possible while following all federal guidelines. As we work through the processes on our end, we would appreciate it if you would review and, if necessary, update your mailing address on WebAdvisor (click on Student Profile and then Contact Information Change) so we can get the funds to you as quickly as possible.
We will send out another communication on Monday, April 20 with additional information regarding the disbursement of these funds.
Below are some frequently asked questions:
Q: Do I qualify to receive funds?
A: If you are currently enrolled in Spring Semester classes as a credit student, and you are not a dual enrollment or transient student or another excluded category, you will receive these funds. The legislation differentiates between students who are eligible for Pell grants and students who are not eligible for Pell grants, so the amount you receive will differ depending on whether you were Pell eligible based on Expected Family Contribution (EFC) for Spring Semester and on how many credit hours you were registered for on March 13, 2020. If your financial aid file is not complete or you have been selected for verification, please complete the process as this may result in an increased award.
Q: How and when will I receive the funds?
A: Checks will be mailed no later than Wednesday, April 29. Students who already have direct deposit set up with GTC should receive the funds on or before Wednesday, April 29. If you do not have direct deposit set up at this time, you will receive a check in the mail. If you do not want your funds direct deposited to the account on file, please delete it by Monday, April 20. To do this, go to GTC4me, then select Web Advisor, Financial Information, and FA Refund Direct Deposit. If your account information is correct and you wish to receive the funds by direct deposit, simply exit the screen and do not hit submit. Be aware that if you delete your banking information, all future refunds will be processed based on this change. If you need to update your mailing address, please do so no later than Monday, April 20, 2020 by logging into GTC4me, selecting Student Profile, and then Contact Information Change.
Q: Can I use my CARES Act money for summer 2020 instead of spring 2020?
A: Per the legislation, the funds are yours to apply toward your educational needs. You may use the funds for summer if you wish or for any other purpose that assists with your educational expenses.
Q: I have a past due balance. Will the CARES Act money be applied to that?
A: All funds are going directly to students. If you owe the college a balance, no funds will be deducted from this grant and you will still owe the balance. We encourage students to use these funds for urgent needs. If you can pay your balance, we encourage you to do so to avoid delays in future registrations or transcript requests.
Q: How do I know how much I've been awarded?
A: Your award will be uploaded to your account as soon as it is available. Check your financial aid awards on Financial Aid Self-Service. Go to GTC4me, login, click Self-Service, and then click Financial Aid. Greenville Technical College is committed to getting the funds to you as quickly as possible.
