PTA Program - Phase II

Students must complete the following to be considered for admission into Phase II:

• Attend a Career Talk Advising Seminar as soon as possible, within one years and no later than March of the year you plan to apply to the program.
• Complete all Phase I required courses with a “C” or better and an overall minimum Phase I GPA of 2.5. Students who make a “D”, “F” or a “W” in a Phase I course will be allowed one additional chance to retake that course and make a “C” or better. If students earn a “D”, “F” or a “W” in any course on the 2nd attempt, they become ineligible to continue in the Physical Therapist Assistant program.

  • If you have not already done so, complete GTC Admission Application online.
  • In addition to the college application, you must submit a completed PTA Program Phase II Weighted Admission Packet between the dates of January 15 and March 31 of the year students anticipate admission into Phase II. See link below.
• Submit all official college transcripts and other necessary documentation to  CollegeTranscripts@gvltec.edu 
• Contact your PTA Program Phase II advisor to discuss admission success strategies.

• Submit PTA Program Weighted Admission Form  no later than March 31 of the Spring Semester prior to the desired Phase II start date.
  • Submit work or volunteer experience documentation along with form for Phase II Weighted Admission Scoring. All work and/or volunteer information must be on company letterhead with the dates and hours, supervisor information - name, email and phone number. This is for verification purposes. 

After acceptance into Phase II, before beginning clinical coursework, students will be required to:

• Attend PTA program student orientation, Date/time announced at a later date by Academic Program director.
• Have a negative 10-panel drug screen report. Documentation will be provided at a later date.
• Have a crime-free criminal background report. Documentation will be provided at a later date.
• Submit a PTA program-specific physical exam with documentation of required immunizations. Documentation will be provided at a later date.
• Submit documentation of current Healthcare Provider CPR certification. Visit the below link for acceptable CPR information.

  • Can't find the date you need? Why not attend one of our convenient BLS Hybrid options (see under BLS banner at https://ce.gvltec.edu/training/aha-training.html). Then click “CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) For Health Care Professionals” tab. Then click https://ce.gvltec.edu/training/aha-training.html. Locate the title CPR/BLS Health Care Provider - Hybrid with Skills Check (Voice-Assisted Manikin). From there you may register for that course. $109.00. • Complete a Healthstream medical orientation unit. Documentation will be provided at a later date.
• Be able to complete all clinical education courses and program field trips, which will require transportation to and from clinical sites.

• PTH 234 - Clinical Education I, 3.0 credits
• PTH 242 - Orthopedic Management, 4.0 credits
• PTH 246 - Neuromuscular Rehabilitation, 5.0 credits
• PTH 264 - Clinical Education II, 5.0 credits
• PTH 274 - Clinical Education III, 5.0 credits

Total credit hours 76.0

Phase II Courses may be taken as follows either full-time or extended track (modified part-time with some full-time required).
