Ethics at Greenville Technical College

As public employees, our faculty and staff occupy positions of trust. Therefore, we are held to a higher standard in performing our daily duties. Every action we take is subject to public scrutiny, and there are a number of ethics laws, policies, and procedures that we must follow. This webpage provides resources for guidance in navigating ethical issues and reporting possible violations.

ETHICS POLICY STATEMENT

It is the policy of Greenville Technical College that all employees will perform their duties and conduct themselves in an ethical and accountable manner in keeping with the applicable provisions of the State Ethics, Government Accountability, and Campaign Reform Act (“State Ethics Act”), and all related policies, procedures, regulations, or interpretations thereof.

Failure to adhere to the provisions of this policy, the State Ethics Act, and any other related policies and procedures may result in personal liability, other penalties as outlined in the law, and/or agency disciplinary action.

Where there are inconsistencies between Greenville Technical College’s Ethics policy and related procedures and the State Ethics Act, or other applicable laws, the document containing the most restrictive provisions will prevail.

If you have a question regarding the ethical implications of a decision about an upcoming event or situation, you can

REPORT A POSSIBLE ETHICS VIOLATION

If you need to report a possible violation:

  • Document as much detail about the violation as possible.
  • Send your information to the Ethics Team at ethics-report@gvltec.edu.

Report the violation to the South Carolina Inspector General’s Office by calling 1-855-723-7283 (1-855-SC-FRAUD) or complete their online reporting form at http://oig.sc.gov/Pages/Complaint1.aspx.

RETALIATION

Retaliation, in any form, against anyone involved in an ethics investigation will not be tolerated.

If you know or suspect that someone is the victim of retaliation as a result of affiliation with an investigation, contact a member of the Ethics Team or Human Resources immediately.
