Due to the mandated regulations by clinical agencies in which students and faculty participate in clinical rotations/externships, acceptance into a program is conditional based on the following requirements: background checks, drug screens, immunizations (MMR, Varicella, Tetanus, influenza, COVID), trainings (CPR, HIPAA, OSHA), contracts (confidentiality, security, computer use), as well as tuberculosis screening, essential functions, technical performance standards, and physical examination. Requirements may vary depending on the program. Random and discretionary background checks and drug screens may also be requested by the clinical/externship site and will be conducted at the expense of the student. If health status changes, the program may request discretionary medical clearance, technical performance standards, and/or partial or complete physical examination (See Student Change in Medical Status).
Documentation of requirements above will be shared with designated personnel at the affiliate clinical/externship site as requested. To be accepted for clinical rotations/externships, all findings must be satisfactory to all participating clinical agencies within the program. Students not accepted for clinical/externship rotations, a requirement for graduation, will not be able to successfully complete the program.
Additionally, violations on a background check may not prohibit program acceptance/clinical placement/progression, but they may not be acceptable for certification/licensure within the discipline. It is the student’s responsibility to verify eligibility to meet professional requirements of their chosen discipline prior to starting the program by contacting the appropriate professional certification/licensing agencies.
PROCEDURE – STUDENTS:
- Program compliance requirements must be complete according to deadlines given to students upon admission.
- Students are required to maintain a compliant status as long as they are enrolled in the program. Several of the requirements will need to be completed or renewed on an annual basis. Please check with program for specific deadlines or requirement changes.
- The program will send notifications to students considered non-compliant or at risk of becoming non-compliant. The at-risk status indicates a requirement will be expiring in the near future. Upon receiving notification, it is the student’s responsibility to take immediate action.
- Students must follow the submission instructions for each requirement. Compliance status will not be updated unless the correct documentation is submitted per instructions.
- Becoming non-compliant may impact the student’s ability to successfully complete a rotation or course and, ultimately, the program.
PROCEDURE – FACULTY (clinical):
- Program compliance requirements must be complete according to deadlines given to faculty upon hire.
- Faculty are required to maintain a compliant status as long as they are employed as school faculty. Several of the requirements will need to be completed or renewed on an annual basis. Please check with program for specific deadlines or requirement changes.
- The Administrative Assistant responsible for compliance will send notifications to faculty considered non-compliant or at risk of becoming non-compliant. The at-risk status indicates a requirement will be expiring in the near future. Upon receiving notification, it is the faculty’s responsibility to take immediate action.
- Faculty must follow the submission instructions for each requirement. Compliance status will not be updated unless the correct documentation is submitted per instructions.
- Becoming non-compliant may impact the faculty’s ability to successfully complete a clinical rotation of a course and ultimately may interrupt the faculty’s ability to supervise students as clinical instructor.
