Greenville Technical College opened a Student Veterans Center today, as a way to remember and honor those killed in the terror attacks of September 11 and as a tribute to the many veterans who enlisted in the military as a result of what happened on that day. The center is made possible through a $15,000 donation from Lockheed Martin. The gift has provided an inviting space for veterans to gather and study, complete with a coffee bar, computer tables, and comfortable furniture. Lockheed Martin?s generosity also allowed for design services provided by Carolina Business Interiors. ?Helping veterans transition from military life to the college campus is a priority for us,? said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. ?Having a comfortable area to prepare for class or relax for a few minutes can make a real difference in that transition. We are grateful to Lockheed Martin for their support to veterans and this tangible proof of that commitment.? ?At Lockheed Martin, we strive to serve and honor those who have served us. This is reflected in our hiring and employment programs and our philanthropic contributions, fundraising efforts and volunteer activities,? said Don Erickson, Lockheed Martin Greenville site director. ?By partnering with Greenville Technical College, we hope to provide a space that helps our veterans and military members as they transition to civilian life.? The Student Veterans Center is located in building 103, room 427A on the college?s Barton Campus. The Student Veterans Center adds to a group of services for student veterans at Greenville Technical College. A student support group, the Greenville Tech Veterans, meets monthly. Scholarships are available to veterans thanks to the Fluor Foundation and Hollingsworth Funds. In addition, special counseling and tutoring services have been made available with support from the Wal Mart Foundation.
