Dodie Anderson, a graduate of Greenville Technical College (GTC) whose many donations to the college are aimed at helping others have the same opportunity, has supported GTC and its students again with gifts for two scholarship funds.
The first gift of $40,000 creates an endowed scholarship named for Dodie and her late husband, Bob. The Andersons established and grew a successful hardwood flooring company that they later sold. Dodie attended GTC after raising four children, graduating in 1979. The scholarship fund is intended to help other non-traditional students.
A second gift of $10,500 adds to a fund previously established through Mrs. Anderson’s generosity. The Daniel Dreisbach Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 to honor Dr. Daniel Dreisbach, a 1980 graduate of Greenville Technical College and the only graduate from the South Carolina Technical College System to be named a Rhodes Scholar, considered to be among the most prestigious academic awards in the world. Dreisbach went on to earn a Ph.D. and a law degree and became a professor of government at American University.
Education is one of Anderson’s favorite charitable causes. “The education I received at Greenville Technical College prepared me well to transfer to USC Upstate and to earn a bachelor’s degree. I want to help others, whether the goal is to prepare for employment or further education, by making an affordable education even more affordable,” she said.
“We are once again very grateful to Dodie Anderson for helping others achieve by removing financial obstacles,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “Many of our students strive to reach their academic goals as they raise children and work. The scholarships Dodie has created will go a long way in helping students meet their goals.”
