A gift by Windstream valued at over $26,000 will expand training opportunities at Greenville Technical College (GTC) as it creates qualified HPBX technicians for the company’s repair center.
The gift came about when Frank Beider, a Windstream data engineer, began teaching data networking at the college on an adjunct basis. He and the Computer Technology Academic Program Director Beau Sanders began talking about adding classes. When the idea of a PBX class came up, the two realized that equipment would be needed to provide students with hands-on experience. The company was able to help GTC obtain seven work stations including fourteen Cisco phones along with all related equipment.
“Collaboration between Windstream and Greenville Technical College is expanding our vision and helping to train future technology workers,” said Jeffrey Toth, Windstream Operations Manager. “The college and the company are walking side-by-side to better the community.”
“We are grateful to Windstream for seeing an educational need and helping us obtain the equipment to fill it,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “This partnership allows our students to prepare for real jobs using the same equipment they’ll encounter in the workplace.”
