Carl and Diana Stecker have established a scholarship fund through the Greenville Tech Foundation. The Carroll and Billie Rushing Endowed Scholarship for Nursing Studies honors Carl’s mentor, Carroll J. Rushing, and acknowledges the interest that Carroll and his wife have had in Greenville Technical College and its students.
Carl is an entrepreneur who has worked in several fields including construction, publishing, option trading, and benefit administration. He founded companies including Net Profit Inc., Benefits in a Card, Net Profit Advisors, and Benefit Guaranty. Throughout Carl’s career, he received valuable advice and counsel from Carroll Rushing, also a successful entrepreneur. This advice contributed greatly to Carl’s success.
A trustee at Furman University and former member of the Foundation Board at Greenville Technical College, Carroll Rushing graduated from Southern Technical Institute in 1957. He has devoted his business career to specialty chemicals and was the founder of EZE Products. In 1994, the company was sold to Calgon Corporation, and the Rushing Foundation was formed to address community needs. He currently heads Shasta Enterprises, a family holding company that manages a number of start-up companies.
“This is a fitting way for Carl Stecker to honor his mentor of many years while benefitting the community,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “Carroll and Billie Rushing believe in the American dream, and this gift will allow deserving students to get help with tuition as they work hard to get ahead.”
