Greenville Technical College awarded 1,391 degrees, diplomas, and certificates in December, with 322 graduates participating in Commencement Exercises held on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at the TD Convention Center.
Jim Benson was awarded an honorary degree. Benson established a business in Greer at the age of 17, hauling used cars from Pennsylvania back to Greer to be sold. With the money he earned, he established a used car lot, and before he was 21, established a Chrysler franchise. Today, that one dealership has turned into seven, an amazing success story that began in Greer. Benson never forgets his community, and works whenever and however he can to give back. He has been involved with Greenville Technical College for many years as a member of the Greenville Tech Foundation board, and later, as a donor who gave back to the people of Greer by supporting what is now known as the Benson Campus.
Alyxandria D. Farkas was named a President’s Award winner in the associate degree category. A GTC success story, she completed her high school diploma, associate degree, and first semester as a Clemson University Marketing student all in the same year. In addition to her demanding academic schedule, she has always committed herself to leadership roles and service to others.
Aleksandra Mereshko received a President’s Award in the diploma/certificate category. She has met extremely high academic standards while continually demonstrating leadership and character. While excelling academically, she has repeatedly given back to Greenville Technical College and the community at large through her involvement in volunteering with organizations including Meals on Wheels and Calvary Home for Children.
