Greenville Technical College’s RIVERWORKS Gallery in downtown Greenville presents 26 Awards beginning today through Feb. 26. The exhibition features the award winners of the college’s “2016 Department of Visual Arts (DVA) Annual Student Exhibit”. An artist reception will be held Friday, Feb. 10 from 6-9 p.m.
The annual juried student exhibit marks the culmination of a year of studio practice by recognizing the best works created by GTC’s visual and applied art students. 26 Awards represents many courses of study offered by the DVA including design and color, sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, graphic design, and website design.
A record 194 entries were submitted by 57 students, 18 of whom received awards. Award donations totaling $2,000 were shared among the award winners, with $200 going to Best in Show, Tiffany Dodd's photograph, Peyton 071916.
“This exhibition encourages our students and provides them with a professional venue to celebrate their talents. 26 Awards also offers the public the opportunity to enjoy the ‘best of the best’ from Greenville Technical College,” said Shane Howell, chair of the Visual Arts Department.
This year’s juror, Marty Epp-Carter, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1994 and a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from Clemson University in 2009. She teaches printmaking and drawing at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities and is a founding member of Greenville’s Contemporary Print Collective.
