Jeff West and Steve Horler have donated $50,136.66 to Greenville Technical College to establish an endowed scholarship fund for students enrolled in the college’s Nursing Program. The first award will be made for a student entering the college this fall.
West is a 1992 graduate of the college’s Nursing program who worked in the Critical Care Unit at Greenville Health System after graduation and later served as a staff member at the University of Michigan Health System and BJC Healthcare in St. Louis. Combining his nursing education with information technology education and skills, West designed IT applications for healthcare professionals, eventually establishing his own consulting firm.
“Greenville Technical College is what got my career started. Thanks to my nursing degree, I was able to talk to healthcare professionals about their IT needs and develop applications that made their jobs easier,” West said. “I worked while I attended college, and through this scholarship fund, I hope to give students the freedom to earn a degree without the pressure of earning the money to pay for it.”
“We are very grateful to Jeff and Steve for helping us fulfill our mission of transforming lives through education,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “It is wonderful to see a couple using their success to benefit students who are just starting out. I know that this gift will impact many students, making an affordable education even more attainable.”
