Greenville Technical College’s Cosmetology Clinic is hosting two free father-daughter hair styling classes this June in honor of Father’s Day.
“Daddies, Daughters and Hairdos” will be held Tuesday, June 12 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, June 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. Both classes will take place at the Barton Campus clinic (Building 106C).
The two-hour class will teach fathers how to manage their daughter’s hair, including lessons in detangling and styling ponytails, braids, pigtails and buns of their daughter’s choice. Each father-daughter pair will be partnered with a GTC Cosmetology student to help with hands-on skills and styling tips. Daughters should be between the ages of four and 13 years old.
Attendees are asked to bring their own styling products, tools and accessories in the hope that what the dads learn in class they’ll be equipped to repeat at home. Students will also be graded on their performance by their instructors, licensed professionals in the field.
Mary Rock, program coordinator of the Cosmetology Program, said she and her students created this new class as a community outreach to help fathers feel more confident in caring for their daughters.
“We also hope that this will be a bonding experience for fathers, especially single dads, while also reinforcing the male role model in their daughter’s lives,” said Rock. “Hosting this during the week of Father’s Day is a perfect fit, and maybe the dads could even incorporate it as a daddy-daughter date night.”
To register for the event, visit https://gtc-daddy-daughter-hairdo-class.eventbrite.com. Deadline to register is June 11 for both classes. Class size is limited to the first 25 registered father-daughter duos. Light refreshments will be served.
