Greenville Technical College’s division of Economic Development and Corporate Training (EDCT) is again offering scholarships for eligible individuals seeking short-term job training for high-demand employment areas.
The Workforce Pathways Scholarship (WPS), funded by the S.C. General Assembly for a fourth time, covers the cost of class tuition for eligible GTC continuing education courses in the areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics and Skilled Trades, Health Care, Environmental Safety, and Quality Management.
These short-term job training programs, many of which are part of the college’s Quick Jobs with a Future program, will prepare students for career fields including medical coding, phlebotomy, asbestos inspector and CNC machine operator.
“The Workforce Pathways funds provided by the state help support training opportunities that will make participants more employable in a short turnaround, some in 90 days or less,” said Jennifer Moorefield, associate vice president for Economic Development and Corporate Training. “Students will be able to use their newly-acquired skills immediately upon completing their program of study.”
“Overall, these funds have the ability to shape the workforce in Greenville County – both to assist our current companies in staying competitive in this global marketplace and to attract prospective companies to Greenville in the future,” she added.
To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old, a S.C. resident, be able to successfully meet program or course pre-requisites and requirements, and present a negative drug screen document at time of registration. Applicants are also required to attend a WPS Information Session that reviews scholarship guidelines, application forms, a complete list of eligible courses and other program information. Day and evening information sessions are offered Tuesdays from Aug. 7-Nov. 13, 2018, in the Buck Mickel Center, located at 216 S. Pleasantburg Dr.
The first-come, first-serve scholarship is available for a limited time period or until funds are expended. Students are limited to one program of study and are responsible for paying for any additional costs beyond the amount awarded through WPS. Courses are subject to change based on availability.
