Tameka Brown has joined the staff at Greenville Technical College as director of Dual Enrollment and Early College. Dual enrollment is a popular option with high school students, allowing juniors and seniors to get an early start on college credits.
Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Benedict College and a master’s degree in social work from the University of South Carolina. She began her career working for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs where she specialized in medical social work, crisis intervention, and disaster preparedness/crisis debriefing. She later worked at Benedict College as an adjunct professor, full-time professor of social work, assistant director of Service-Learning and Leadership Development, and director of Academic Advising.
Brown is a member of the National Association of Black Social Workers where she has served on the national board as the adviser to the International Office of Student Affairs. She is also a member of Phi Alpha Social Work Honors Society and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She has received many awards including Benedict College’s Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award and National Young Alumni Award as well as a New Leader Award from the Department of Veteran Affairs.
