Dr. Matteel Jones, vice president for student services at Greenville Technical College, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Her appointment began in October 2018 and concludes in December 2020. After that, she is eligible to serve two additional three-year terms.
On the board, she joins 76 other members representing 800 higher education institutions across 11 southeastern states. The board is responsible for determining SACSCOC policy, reviewing and making decisions regarding the accreditation of institutions, conducting the initial review for any proposed dues changes or modifications to SACSCOC standards, and serving as a liaison between the membership and commission staff.
Dr. Jones has served as a SACSCOC evaluator since 2012 and has chaired review committees since 2016. “I look forward to learning from other institutions while supporting the commission’s mission of assuring educational quality and improving effectiveness of member institutions,” said Dr. Jones. “It is a pleasure to help our sister institutions become the best versions of themselves.”
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Latin America, and other international sites.
