Greenville Technical College’s Transportation Technologies Department will host a summer day camp for 10th - 12th grade students to explore the career fields of automotive technology, motorsports, auto body repair, and diesel equipment at the McKinney Regional Automotive Technology Center in Greenville, June 17-20.
The 2019 Transportation Career Camp is the first summer session in GTC’s new Accelerate U career exploration programming for high school students. The college’s summer day camps for middle schoolers, Adventure Tech, is now registering students for its second camp season, which runs June 10-Aug. 1.
“Our career camp is a perfect fit for students who are interested in cars, motorsports, or even those who like to work with their hands and find engineering and burgeoning technologies fascinating,” said Brian Easler, department head of the college’s transportation programs. “Students can discover a potential career direction while having fun and learning from our industry experts.”
Through demonstrations and hands-on activities, students will learn the elements of metal fabrication, metal repair, polishing, refinishing techniques, engine diagnostics, air brake and safety test, suspension, engine /chassis dyno setup, transmission basics, as well as routine maintenance with an introduction to Scan Tool/OBD II technologies. Instructors in GTC’s transportation technologies programs teach each session.
Camp sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Registration is open to high school sophomores through graduating seniors. Space is limited to 24 campers and is first-come, first-served. Cost is $149 per student and includes lunch each day, a t-shirt and safety equipment.
Deadline to register is June 3. Contact Fran Ashbrook at (864) 250-8428 or email fran.ashbrook@gvltec.edu to register and for more information.
