Greenville Technical College’s fourth annual Student Scholar Showcase was held on April 17 with more than 70 students participating. The event, held at the college’s Center for Manufacturing Innovation, featured creativity and scholarly excellence through oral presentations, two-dimensional projects, and three-dimensional works including robots, plastic injection molding, an HVAC construction wall, building construction, and 3D printing. Areas represented included speech, biological sciences, business, English, history, philosophy, auto body repair, engineering technology, mechatronics, HVAC/building construction, administrative office technology, leadership, and visual arts.
The purpose of the event is to allow students who have developed academic work in conjunction with faculty mentors to show off their research and findings. The showcase is open to the public and this year, drew a crowd of 150 students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.
Students taking an event planning class through the college’s Marketing program served as hosts for the evening, gaining experience with their class subject matter by greeting guests, handing out programs, replenishing snacks, and answering questions.
“This event brings together some of the college’s best and brightest with industry leaders, advisory board members, and people interested in seeing the work our students have produced and understanding the educational journeys that have led to these projects,” said Dr. Lee Edwards, who pioneered the event in 2016 and continues to lead the effort.
The fifth annual Student Scholar Showcase will be held in April 2020 at the Center for Manufacturing Innovation.
