Greenville Technical College has received funding through the SC Workforce and Industrial Needs Scholarship (SC WINS) to make GTC tuition costs even more affordable for both traditional and dual enrolled students.
The SC WINS is a statewide technical college scholarship program designed to address workforce shortages in South Carolina. Beginning July 1 and awarding for Fall Semester 2019, the scholarship will supplement S.C. Lottery Tuition Assistance to help further reduce tuition costs for eligible students.
“The extra funds from the SC WINS are a welcome bonus to many of our students and will help make education more affordable while also helping individuals enter the workforce in critical areas across our state,” said DJ Wetzel, director of financial aid at Greenville Technical College.
Students, both traditionally enrolled and dual enrolled high school students, are eligible to receive the SC WINS scholarship if they meet one of the following two criteria:
- Criteria one: A student must be receiving a Lottery Tuition Assistance Program (LTAP) scholarship for the current academic year, major in a critical workforce area as defined by the State Board of Technical and Comprehensive Education, and enroll in at least one course within a critical workforce area. These areas include health care, computer and information technology, advanced manufacturing and construction.
- Criteria two: A student must be receiving a LTAP scholarship for the current academic year and meet the USDA income eligibility guidelines for free and reduced-priced meals.
Students will also need to enroll in at least six credit hours per semester, and earn at least a 2.0 GPA after attempting 24 credit hours.
For Fall Semester 2019, recipients will receive $50 per credit hour up to $600 total after applying all other scholarships or grants. The scholarship may cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees. There is also a book allowance of up to $300 per year if a student is enrolled in at least one course in a critical workforce area during the semester.
