Susan Michelle Little, a Greenville Technical College Medical Assisting student, has received the Student Essay Excel Award from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
The essay described why Little has been inspired to become a medical assistant and why it is important to be credentialed for that profession. Her response detailed visits to the doctor during which the medical assistant made her comfortable and calmed her fears. The medical assistant position, she wrote, combines the medical field, helping people, and teaching – all passions of hers. Little also wrote about the Certified Medical Assistant-AAMA credential as a support system and resource for additional training and professional connections.
Essays were judged on writing, content, and overall effectiveness. The honor comes with a $1,000 prize and was presented to Little at a Greenville Chapter meeting of AAMA.
“Michelle’s essay is impressive,” said Melissa Hester, program director for the Medical Assistant program at Greenville Technical College. “Even more impressive is the story behind her response. Inspired as she was by positive role models and seeking the credentials to start the job with strong skills, I know that she will be an amazing addition to the profession.”
