Greenville Technical College’s Department of Visual Arts (DVA) “2019 Visual Arts Annual Student Exhibition” is now on view through December 6 at the Benson Campus Galleries. This year’s juror team Sandy Singletary and Elizabeth Snipes Rochester selected “Grayscale Study,” a drawing by GTC student Sydnay Greene, as the exhibition’s Best in Show.
This year's juror team consists of two Lander University Art Department professors; Sandy Singletary, interim dean, College of Arts and Humanities plus Elizabeth Snipes-Rochester, interim chair, Art Department. Singletary and Snipes-Rochester selected the exhibition of 72 works from 128 entries and 19 award winners. According to Snipes-Rochester, “Craft, composition, exceptional use of materials, creativity, and professionalism were the determining factors in our choices for awards. “ Singletary also commented, “We were very impressed with the quality and broad range of the work that students are producing in the Greenville Tech program.”
In addition to the Best in Show award, 18 other students received placements in the annual competition of their peers. Altogether, the 19 award winners received a total of $1,675 in cash awards at the department’s Halloween Gala and Exhibition Opening Wednesday, Oct. 30. The works of the 36 students juried into this exhibition represent all the fine and applied arts disciplines in the DVA’s curriculum.
