Kim Jamison is a recent recipient of a Fluor-funded scholarship. Going through a divorce several years ago, she realized that she needed a job that would provide a comfortable salary with a family-friendly schedule. Her background in the beauty industry and experience in outside sales weren’t the concrete credentials that employers were seeking, so she enrolled in the Quick Jobs Ophthalmic Assistant program. The donation will allow for $7,500 in general scholarships, $7,500 in scholarships for women in welding, and $10,000 to create Quick Jobs scholarships specifically for veterans.
“To help ensure the vibrancy of a community is maintained and nurtured, Fluor is committed to supporting programs like Greenville Tech’s Quick Jobs that develop workforces by providing job training for adults who find themselves in need of quickly obtaining skills matching the needs of local business and industry,” said Cheryl Wiggins, senior manager of community and public affairs for Fluor.
“Fluor has established a culture of giving in terms of donations and volunteer hours, both of which build this community,” said Ann Wright, vice president for advancement with the Greenville Tech Foundation. “Once again, they are supporting our students as they seek job skills or find paths for changing careers. That kind of support allows our students the financial stability to secure gainful employment and provide for their families.”
