Greenville Technical College’s Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program is the recipient of three G5 Twin Refrigeration Recovery machines sponsored through Appion, Inc.’s Educational Donation Program. The machines with accessories, each valued at $899, will help students train using state-of-the-art equipment in the lab and classroom.
HVAC/R instructors Greg Ballenger and Andrew Fitch, along with HVAC/R Department Head Franklin Smith, welcome these donations that will provide the opportunity for students to work hands-on with real-world, industry-standard equipment. The G5 Twin is the fastest, lightest and most versatile refrigerant recovery unit on the market per Smith.
The HVAC/R program has received a total of eight refrigeration recovery machines and one vacuum pump through Appion’s program in the last few years, a total value of $8,192.
“The additional equipment will help provide the students access to the latest equipment while completing laboratory projects quicker and more efficiently,” said Ballenger. “Along with the refrigerant, hose and accessories, this will enhance our training.”
Smith adds the donation helps the department align with HVAC Excellence Accreditation initiatives, which includes providing innovative equipment for student training goals. Appion is a Colorado-based manufacturing company that designs and produces innovative and user-friendly HVAC/R tools and equipment. Its donation program is only available to qualified, non-profit educational facilities.
GTC’s HVAC/R certificate and diploma in applied science programs provide students with theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to install and service air conditioning, heat pumps, gas, electric heating equipment, and commercial refrigeration equipment. It is one of nine academic programs in the School of Aviation, Construction, and Transportation Technologies. Greenville Tech offers six academic schools that align with pathways offered by Greenville County Schools.
