Greenville Technical College Theatre presents “The People, Yes” by Carl Sandburg with four performances the weekend of February 20-23.
Sandburg’s poetry is filed with warmth, sadness, humor and the hope of the American spirit – and this play weaves “a poem that makes brilliant use of the legends and myths, the tall tales and the sayings of America,” said Padraic Colum, the great Irish-American writer. Adapted for the stage by Dr. Dan Robbins, assistant professor of theatre at GTC, the production will also feature American folksongs such as “Frankie and Johnny”, “Cindy, Cindy,” and others.
The ensemble cast of GTC students include Chris Geelhoed, Ridley Crane (also plays cello), Niraksa Cham Reoun, Ashlyn Harp, Wendolyn Rodriguez, William Weiss, Brandon Ledford (also plays guitar), Elizabeth Jones, Asia Hopwood and Mackenzie Johnston.
Performances in the University Transfer Auditorium begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 20 through Saturday, February 22 and a matinee at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 23. The auditorium (Building 104, Room 136) is located on the Barton Campus, 506 S. Pleasantburg Dr. The play is produced with special permission from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
Admission is $5 for students (any school) and seniors (60+), and $10 for adults. Visit https://gtcpresents.eventbrite.com to purchase in advance online. Tickets are also available for purchase at the door.
