In an effort to enhance vaccine distribution efforts, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) will use a vacant property owned by Greenville Technical College to provide a convenient vaccination site.
The Buck Mickel Center, located at 216 South Pleasantburg Drive, once housed Greenville Technical College’s continuing education classes. When the college restructured its academic divisions into schools containing all options within similar subject areas, the consolidation left the Buck Mickel Center vacant. Now the college is moving forward with plans to sell it in order to finance other campus improvement priorities.
Vaccinations offered at the Buck Mickel Center will follow DHEC’s phased approach with vaccination clinics expected to begin in late February. “Though the Buck Mickel Center has only been vacant for a short time, we have been pleased to share it with the United Way for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and now with DHEC so that they can expand vaccine access in our community,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “COVID has affected the entire community, and it’s important for us to come together in any way we can to fight it.”
