Greenville Technical College presents Akhil Reed Amar, Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University, as the special guest speaker in its fall School of Arts & Sciences Speakers Series' Constitution Day program, Tuesday, Sept. 14 via Zoom from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.
In this virtual presentation, based on his new book, The Words That Made Us: America’s Constitutional Conversation, 1760-1840, Prof. Amar will discuss the text and context of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.
Amar, a preeminent scholar of the Constitution, has been cited by the U.S. Supreme Court in more than 40 cases. His scholarship has been showcased on “The Colbert Report” and “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” among other broadcasts.
The discussion will be followed by a question and answer session moderated by Jamie Roughton, associate professor of Political Science at Greenville Technical College.
“Dr. Amar’s works have long been a fixture in our political science program as he is considered the ‘go-to’ expert on the Constitution – often called the ‘Yoda of the Constitution,” said Roughton. “Thus, Greenville Tech is immensely honored to provide the opportunity for our students, employees, and community to personally hear from and speak with Dr. Amar as we explore his revolutionary work on the conversation of the Constitution.”
There is no cost to participate in the virtual session, and it is open to GTC students, employees, and the community. Registration is going on now through Eventbrite. Visit https://gtc-artsandsciencesspeakerseries.eventbrite.com to reserve your spot. For questions about the event, contact Roughton at Jamie.roughton@gvltec.edu.
