United Bank has donated $2,500 to the Greenville Tech Foundation to be used for the Emergency Student Needs Fund. This gift will assist students who have unmet critical needs, providing help with medical bills, utilities, rent, bus passes, and other financial burdens that could otherwise cause a student to drop out.
Funds are administered through Greenville Technical College’s Student Assistance and Resources (STAR) Center, which helped 177 students and granted more than $197,000 in emergency aid last year. Resources provided by the STAR Center include the on-campus Caring Corner Food Pantry, providing packaged and canned items to help students navigate food insecurity.
“We are grateful to United Bank for joining with us to help students through hurdles,” said Ann Wright, vice president for advancement with the Greenville Tech Foundation. “Supporting the college’s mission of transforming lives through education, United is making sure that students are able to stay in college until they graduate. Gaining the skills to achieve economic mobility, graduates ensure that area employers have the qualified new hires they need to succeed.”
“United Bank is proud to partner with Greenville Technical College,” remarked Jim Boyd, United Bank’s Market President. “College is a place of learning, hope and growth, and we are supporting our communities’ future leaders to continue on this path by removing some of the unexpected financial burdens that may arise. It is an honor to offer this support.”
United Bank is committed to helping communities in a variety of areas including financial literacy, children and education, health, and affordable housing. Through volunteerism, fundraising, and corporate support, United is a dedicated partner, making a positive impact across the Upstate.
