Placement Testing

If you don’t have qualifying scores or credits for placement, you and your advisor may decide that taking the NexGen ACCUPLACER placement test is the best next step. This test helps determine the right courses for your academic success.

ABOUT THE ACCUPLACER TEST

Computerized and untimed
Average duration: Up to 3 hours for all subjects (or about 1 hour per subject)
Flexible: You can pause and resume the test later if needed.
First attempt, free. Second attempt for GTC regular applicant, $23; free for Early College/Dual Enrolled student.

Prospective Students: You must complete the college's online application before scheduling or taking a placement test.

Walk-In Testing at Barton Campus Testing Center

Location: Testing Center, Barton Campus – Dreisbach/Anderson Student Success Center Building 102, Suite 200A 506 South Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29607

Availability: No appointment needed. First-come, first-served.

Hours:

Monday–Friday: Testing begins at 8:30 a.m.
Last test start time:
- Monday–Thursday: 6 p.m. (must finish by 7 p.m.)
- Friday: 12 p.m. (must finish by 1 p.m.)

Requirements:

Valid physical photo ID. (No digital images; GTC/High School picture IDs allowed)
No cellphones, calculators, smart watches, smart glasses, or other tech/AI-enabled personal devices allowed.
Lockers available for personal items

Scheduled Testing at Satellite Campuses

To test at a satellite campus, you must schedule an appointment using the links below. A confirmation email will follow with location-specific instructions.

Use Google Chrome to open the scheduling link
Select your preferred date and time
Enter your full name (as on your GTC application), phone number, and date of birth
Include your GTC ID# if available

Remote Testing

If you live more than 50 miles from any Greenville Technical College campus, you may take the ACCUPLACER test at a nearby approved site. You must be a GTC applicant and receive a voucher number from the GTC Testing Center prior to testing.

Non-GTC Student Testing with Voucher

If you would like to test at one of Greenville Technical College's testing locations but intend to attend another college, you can request a voucher to test at our location from your home institution. Once you have secured the voucher information, you may contact the Testing Center to schedule your test and set up the voucher to share your scores with your home institution. Before testing, you will pay the $32 testing fee at the Bursar's Office (Barton Campus) or at the satellite campus's Cashier's office.

ABOUT RE-TESTING

Greenville Technical College applicants and students may retake the Next-Generation Accuplacer under the following guidelines:

Second Attempt: Allowed without prior approval, at least 1 week after the first attempt, within a 6-month period.
Third Attempt: Requires Testing Center administration approval and a recommendation from your advisor.
Fee: $23 per re-test, payable to the Bursar’s Office or a satellite Cashier before testing.
Preparation: We strongly recommend using the free study resources available on the Accuplacer/College Board website before your first attempt.

REQUEST YOUR PLACEMENT TEST SCORES

Use the Placement Test Score Release form to request your placement test scores from Greenville Tech to be sent to another institution. Once you complete the information requested and pay the $30 processing fee, return it to the Testing Center (email is on the form) and we will send it to the institution of your choice. You can pay the fee at the college's Bursar's office.
