The purpose of the placement test is to ensure that each student is academically prepared to enter his or her chosen field of study. The placement test is not a pass/fail test.
Placement tests are required for most Greenville Technical College students. These tests ensure that you get started in the right classes for your academic background and your program. Taking a class for which you are not prepared could prevent you from successfully moving forward in your college career.
If you have taken the Accuplacer, Compass, or Asset tests here or at another college/ university within the last five years, you may submit those scores. Other exemptions are also possible - see Placement.
Your placement test scores determine if you go directly into the courses required for your program or if you need to take one or more transitional (developmental) courses designed to assist in the improvement of basic skills in Math, Reading and English.
Use the Placement Test Score Release form to request your placement test scores from Greenville Tech to be sent to another institution. Once you complete the information requested, return it to the Testing Center (email is on the form) and we will send it to the institution of your choice.
