The Greenville Tech Foundation is thrilled to announce a substantial investment of $10,000 from AT&T in support of the African American Male Scholars Initiative (AAMSI). This funding will provide crucial resources and inspire hope and confidence in the AAMSI students, fostering a more equitable and inclusive educational environment at Greenville Technical College.
The AAMSI program, established in 2019, was born out of a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by African American male students at Greenville Technical College. By offering individualized support, mentorship, and comprehensive services, AAMSI has made remarkable strides in improving student retention and graduation rates. To date, AAMSI scholars have achieved an impressive persistence rate of over 83%, which far exceeds the rate for their peers who do not participate in the program.
We are deeply grateful for AT&T’s generous support of the AAMSI program," Ann Wright, Vice President for Advancement at Greenville Tech Foundation, says. This funding is not just a contribution but a lifeline that will enable us to provide critical resources such as textbook stipends, lab fees, and wrap-around services that are vital to the academic and personal success of our students. With AT&T's backing, we can continue to build on the program's success and make a lasting impact on the lives of these young men."
The Greenville Tech Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a supportive community for African American male students. With the continued support of partners like AT&T, the AAMSI program will empower more students to reach their academic and personal goals, creating a pathway to success and building a brighter future for all.
“At AT&T, we are committed to supporting initiatives that create pathways to success for students by providing the resources they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond,” said Amanda Taylor, Regional Director of External Affairs, AT&T South Carolina. “We are proud to support the Greenville Tech Foundation and the African American Male Scholars Initiative and the work they do to inspire the next generation of African American male leaders.”
