Greenville Technical College’s School of Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation Technology (AMTT) is setting a new standard in workforce development through transformative updates to its Advanced Manufacturing Technology academic program. These enhancements, driven by Industry 4.0 technologies and partnerships, have earned the college recognition for innovation and excellence.
Greenville Tech was recently honored with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers’ (SME) inaugural Workforce Development Innovations Award, recognizing its leadership in preparing students for successful careers in manufacturing. The award celebrates the college’s innovative AMTT programs, which stand out for their strong industry partnerships, state-of-the-art facilities and job-ready training.

Strategic Partnerships Driving Innovation
- CESMII Membership: Since joining the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII) in Fall 2022, the program has expanded to include injection molding and additive manufacturing technologies.
- Tooling-U Integration: In Fall 2023, Greenville Tech partnered with Tooling-U, embedding its smart manufacturing curriculum into Advanced Manufacturing, Mechatronics and Machine Tool Technology (MTT) courses.
Curriculum Enhancements for Smart Manufacturing
- Courses now feature smart manufacturing applications and Industry 4.0-aligned content.
- Curriculum updates span across Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology/CNC and Manufacturing programs.
- A new Capstone Course (MFG 481) incorporates additive manufacturing and injection molding, allowing students to apply advanced concepts in real-world projects.
- Students gain hands-on experience with a Low-Cost Smart Sensor Experimental Training Platform, reinforcing smart manufacturing principles.
Advanced Equipment and Hands-On Training
- The program added APSX tabletop injection molding machines, Bambu Labs 3D printers and Prusa printers at the Center for Manufacturing Innovation campus.
- Tooling-U is utilized in MFG 402 Additive Manufacturing, enhancing student engagement with industry-standard tools.
